CURRICULUM

Nrtyakala is a pioneering school of Indian dance, dedicated to professional training in Bharatanatyam and Odissi for students between 5 and 35.

The School

  • Has trained a large number of professional dancers in Toronto, Mississauga, Winnipeg, Regina, and Thunder Bay

  • Involves advanced students in many-sided choreographic and performance activities of Menaka Thakkar Dance Company including national and international touring

  • Conducts classes at all levels leading to Junior and Senior Arangetrams

  • Regularly invites musicians and guest teachers from India

  • Offers advanced workshops in Bharatanatyam, Odissi, and Contemporary Western Dance
    Classes are offered in a three-term framework: Fall, Winter and Summer, in North York in a 5,000 sq. ft. fully renovated modern dance studio

  • Intensive summer school includes ‘Fast Track’ learning schedule for those who are able to move faster through the regular program and also those who can attend classes only in summer every year

  • Summer workshops are offered in other classical styles of dance (Indian and non-Indian), body conditioning, choreography and dramaturgy, dance history, aesthetics, dance appreciation, dance writing and criticism

  • Fee discounts and significant fee subsidies are available (call for details)

  • Arrangements are made for students to have free or heavily discounted access to professional dance performances

  • Performance opportunities are offered to every student on School Annual Day and other occasions every year

  • Maintains resource centre in dance books and videos, accessible to every student
