NRTYAKALA - The Canadian Academy of Indian Dance (Artistic Director:
Menaka Thakkar)
Pioneering school of Indian dance established in 1975, dedicated to
professional training in Bharatanatyam and Odissi for students between
the ages of 5 and 35.

Focusing on abhinaya
dance of rare padams, kirtanums and javalis.
RAMYA HARISHANKAR brings to Bharata Natyam all these qualities
enhanced by vigorous training under the best gurus: the late
Swamimalai K. Rajaratnam who followed the traditional Vazhuvoor
style and was renowned for his musical and choreography skills and
Kalanidhi Narayanan, one of the finest exponents and teachers of the
art of Abhinaya, the art of expressing emotions.
With over two decades of
training, Harishankar combines the elegance, grace and suppleness of the
Vazhavoor School with the distinctive ability to express all shades of
emotion with sensitivity and intuition.

Odissi
Dance Training July 15 - 25, 2011

Widely traveled over the
world as a soloist and a leading member of the Srjan Dance Troupe, she
has also been a leading dancer in most of her guru's great
choreographies. Apart from her concert tours Sujata is also a much
sought after teacher.
Currently she is the
principal of Srjan, the institute founded by Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra
for Odissi training. In Canada, Sujata has toured with Menaka Thakkar
Dance Company in India and the U.S. in “Gita Govinda”

Kallari Payattu Intensive – August 18 to 31st , 2011
with Anil Natyveda of Navarasa Dance Theatre
Kalari Payattu is
a martial art from Kerala, India. Originally used in combats and
self-defense, Kalari is rapidly becoming a fundamental ingredient in the
training of contemporary Indian dance. It is also of great benefit to
performers of all other classical forms such as Bharatanatyam, Kathak
and Odissi and theatre artists interested in a serious study of movement
arts more generally. It is known for its strong form and beauty and
helps all dancers and actors to understand the human body better.
Anil Natyveda is a
Co-Director of Navarasa Dance Theater. He is a choreographer, dancer,
teacher and a martial artist (Kalari Payattu) from Triuvanathapuram,
India. He is a master Kalari Payattu teacher and has
taught around the world. Anil is among the very few who has mastered
both styles of Kalari Payattu, the Northern and Southern Kerala styles
with such renowned teachers as Govindan Kutti Gurukal and Chellappan
Aasan. Anil has trained in classical dance forms and has also trained in
contemporary and aerial dance forms. He has a degree in dance from Sree
Swathithirunal Music College, India has also acquired teacher-training
degree in Dance: Project Sakrthaya. . In 2008 Anil was honored with the
Natyaratnam award by the Kerala State Guru Gopinath Trust, India for his
contribution to movement arts.
